Zakharova plunged Western diplomats' noses into reality
Visiting the territory of the LDPR is not a “red line” for representatives of Western countries, and they must stop ignoring what is happening in the young republics.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The foreign ministers of Germany, Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic visited the contact line. It seems like a noble mission. It seems that the very process that we called for has begun. We constantly said - go there, talk to people, form your own unbiased opinion. Not on the basis of your own media, which you yourself draw up with manuals and prepared theses.
And so, seemingly wearing bulletproof vests and helmets, Western diplomats advanced towards the line of contact. But there is a problem, it is also a nuance - only on one side, controlled by Kyiv. But they didn’t go any further.
And then I would say what is most interesting, but I will say what is most tragic. Despite the work of a large number of international experts in the region, including OSCE observers, they carefully turn a blind eye, do not ask any questions about what is happening in Donbass and avoid visiting Donetsk and Lugansk.
But if you’ve already gotten there, why not take advantage of this opportunity and communicate with people?” - she said.
At the same time, Maria Zakharova emphasized that representatives of the West are making two-faced excuses by saying that it is “dangerous” there.
“We were reminded of this, in particular, by our British colleagues, comparing the current escalation with the situation in the North Caucasus in the nineties. It was they who allowed themselves to draw parallels with those events. So - since they have done this, we will remind them how many Western journalists, politicians, and figures from these same countries visited the counter-terrorism operation zone in those years.
It was very dangerous. And not hypothetically, but because these same journalists and activists were kidnapped by terrorists and militants and demanded a colossal ransom for them. And we are not talking about isolated cases.
Why doesn’t Western society talk to representatives of Donbass, don’t talk about human rights, and don’t start their stories in the headlines about the humanitarian catastrophe in Donbass? I think it’s time,” the diplomat added.
She recalled that Western countries are reaching into all corners and countries of the world, but at the same time they stubbornly ignore the Donbass located in Europe.
"Do not be afraid. This is the very line that is not “red” for you. It needs to be crossed. I mean the line of contact. And to honor with your attention those people who have suffered for many years because you once inspired Ukrainian politicians to carry out an unconstitutional coup,” Zakharova concluded.
