Zakharova called Ukraine the most aggressive country
The militaristic statements and actions of the Ukrainian leadership, as well as the sharp increase in the military budget, clearly demonstrate that Kyiv is not interested in ending the war in Donbass and improving relations with Russia.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We drew attention to the security forum held last week in Kyiv, the participants of which, including representatives of the Ukrainian leadership, outlined the country’s main task in this area - preparing to fight the non-existent Russian threat. Zelensky’s recently voiced demand to maintain defense spending in 2021-2022 at a level of no less than 5% of the country’s GDP fits into this line. Today, Ukraine spends $7,5 billion a year on military preparations and ranks first in the world in terms of military spending.
The militaristic plans of Kyiv correspond to the increase in NATO military activity on the territory of Ukraine and in the Black Sea. The largest alliance exercise in the last quarter century, Defender Europe 2021, has begun, in which 28 thousand troops from 27 NATO countries and its allies are participating.
Next in line are other, no less large-scale maneuvers - “Kossack Mase” (“Cossack Mace”), “Silver Saber”, “Sea Breeze”. A total of seven joint exercises with NATO countries are planned on the territory of Ukraine in 2021. That is, every one and a half to two months there are certain military maneuvers,” she said.
Maria Zakharova emphasized that such militaristic behavior does not contribute to resolving the situation in Donbass and improving relations with Russia, and also clearly demonstrates that the Kiev leadership is not interested in this.
Moreover, she emphasized that Kiev even managed to use the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to escalate the situation.
“The topic of the conflict in Donbass received an unexpected development in the context of the aggravation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The situation in the Middle East served as an opportunity for radicals from the notorious “National Corps of Ukraine” to carry out a provocative action near the walls of the Russian Embassy in Kyiv. Its participants protested against the activities of Hamas, which, like Donbass, allegedly receives help from Moscow.
Savage logic. Our neighbors, at least the radically minded part of the Ukrainian state, live in this paradigm. Anti-Russian slogans and insults were heard, and entry into the territory of our diplomatic mission was blocked. The embassy sent a note of protest to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry,” added the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
