Zakharova accused Ukraine of information banditry
Ukraine started a war in its own information space by introducing sanctions against the TV channels “112” and NewsOne, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this today at a briefing in the Crimean Koktebel.
“What is happening is presented as counteraction to foreign propaganda and the spread of the ideology of terrorism. A purge of our own media is being carried out. In the public space, Kyiv politicians talk about their commitment to the principles of Western democracy and freedom of speech, but in fact they are engaged in information banditry, closing objectionable media outlets under fictitious pretexts and initiating cases against journalists on falsified charges,” Zakharova said.
As an example, she cited the situation with the editor-in-chief of RIA Novosti Ukraine, Kirill Vyshinsky, who was arrested in the spring on charges of treason and is in custody.
“He is the victim of a campaign of media repression absolutely unprecedented in modern Europe, which is gaining momentum in Ukraine. There, channels are closed, journalists are subjected to physical pressure, even murders, foreign media employees are deported, and people’s lives are ruined under the pretext of “fighting information aggression.” All this world history has passed through, it all ends tragically. The Kiev regime is acting in the same vein of historical mistakes,” Zakharova said.
She equated the silence of international organizations regarding the situation in Ukraine to “complicity in the formation of a totalitarian information space in the very center of Europe.”
