Zakharova: The UN confirmed the discrimination of Donbass residents by the Kyiv regime
The findings of the UN human rights observation mission in Ukraine confirm that official Kyiv is pursuing a discriminatory policy against citizens living in Donbass.

This was stated today by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, commenting on the 20th report of the UN mission for August-November 2017, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The refusal of the authorities to pay pensions and social benefits, the absence of a procedure for compensating citizens for the loss of property and housing as a result of the actions of the Ukrainian security forces, artificial restrictions on crossings of contact and confiscation of their funds - all this put 4 million people on the brink of survival and contributed to further division Ukrainian society and reducing chances for future national reconciliation,” Zakharova said.
According to her, serious concern is caused by Kyiv’s reluctance to investigate flagrant cases of gross violations of human rights by Ukrainian law enforcement agencies and the Security Service of Ukraine, which, as the reports of the UN mission show, have become systemic.
“We are talking about illegal imprisonment, forced disappearances, detention without communication with the outside world, the use of torture and sexual violence, the use of anti-terrorism legislation to deal with the opposition and dissent,” Zakharova clarified.
The UN mission recorded unprecedented direct pressure from the country's top leadership on the work of the judiciary.
“This contributes to the spread of permissiveness and impunity in the country. Against this background, the lack of any progress in the investigation of crimes on the Kiev Maidan and in Odessa is particularly indignant. We share concern about the rise of a new wave of extreme forms of intolerance, including at the level of the political establishment. We are talking about widespread suppression of freedom of speech and assembly, harassment and attacks on journalists, including foreign ones, and their deportation from the country. The UN rightly states that such manifestations are not even investigated by the authorities,” Zakharova concluded.
