Zakharova responded to the persecution of Bulgarian Russophiles
Political persecution and arrest of the leadership of the Bulgarian social movement “Russophiles” and the accusation of espionage against Chairman Nikolai Malinin call into question the current positive dynamics of bilateral relations between Russia and Bulgaria.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to dwell on the topic of accusing the chairman of the national Russophile movement in Bulgaria of espionage. We are concerned about these allegations. They were brought against the chairman of the non-governmental organization “Russophiles”.
Let me remind you that we are talking about a Bulgarian organization. The activities of this non-governmental organization, as we understand, were aimed exclusively at developing bilateral cooperation and strengthening friendly ties between the peoples of our countries,” Zakharova said.
“We expect that the Bulgarian government will refrain from steps that could call into question the current positive dynamics of bilateral relations, and joint work will continue to implement the agreements reached recently.
Including in the humanitarian and cultural spheres to preserve the unifying historical heritage,” added the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
