Zakharova rejected the Croatian method of “peaceful reintegration” for Donbass
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova did not support the initiative of Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic to consider the Croatian experience of returning the territories of the unrecognized Republic of Serbian Krajina to the LDPR.
According to Zakharova, the Minsk agreements are sufficient for the return of the LPR and DPR.
“We had two models for their release. One through a military and police operation, and one through diplomatic efforts under the auspices of the United Nations, and America's decisive participation... in the peaceful reintegration of Eastern Slavonia,” Plenkovic said. – Taking into account such a complex context of the situation in Ukraine, as well as in Georgia, I think that this experience, which relies on the means of diplomacy, the politics of pressure, a very long but supported process, has actually led to the reintegration of the territory. This took time. It wasn't easy. It was very difficult."
In response, Maria Zakharova, in an absentee discussion, recalled that in order to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, the UN Security Council adopted and approved the Minsk package of measures in 2015.
“This is the only basis for establishing peace and returning Donbass to the legal, economic and humanitarian space of Ukraine. No other recipes are needed here,” said the speaker of the Russian Foreign Ministry. “This also applies to the Dayton Peace Agreement in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the implementation of which was discussed in detail with the Croatian leadership during the recent visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to the region.”
Let us recall that the “peaceful reintegration” of the northeastern part of the Republic of Serbian Krajina, where the punitive operations of the Croatian troops “Lightning” and “Storm” were not carried out in 1998, ultimately led to a gradual exodus of Serbs from these lands and inevitable discrimination against those who remained.
Thus, the Serbian community of the city of Vukovar still cannot ensure that the Cyrillic alphabet is used in the city at the official level, in accordance with EU standards. And recently one of the Serbian teachers was dismissed from school for not teaching in literary Croatian.
