Zakharova clarified information on humanitarian aid from the Russian Federation to the United States
Half the cost of humanitarian cargo from the Russian Federation, arriving at night at New York airport, was paid for by the Russian Direct Investment Fund, and half by the American side.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For our part, we respond to the requests that our country receives at this difficult moment. As you know, cooperation between Russia and the United States in the fight against the spread of coronavirus infection is carried out on the basis of agreements between the presidents of the two countries, which were reached during their telephone conversation on March 30.
In furtherance of these agreements, a cargo of medical equipment was delivered to the United States by military transport aircraft of the Russian Ministry of Defense. There were questions that were addressed to the Russian side from the American and Russian media, and appropriate explanations were made. I would like to answer all the questions again.
Half of the cost of the cargo was paid by the Russian Direct Investment Fund, and half by the American side independently. As you know, the Russian Direct Investment Fund plays a significant role in Russian and American business cooperation and supports American business in Russia.
At the moment, and this, it seems to me, requires special attention, Russia has the opportunity to help in the fight against a common threat. I would like to draw attention to what everyone now agrees with - this threat is common,” Zakharova said.
She recalled that during the most acute stage of China’s fight against the spread of the coronavirus epidemic, Moscow was one of the first to provide assistance to Beijing.
“We are now receiving support from Beijing. These days, the US is refocusing its industry on producing goods needed to contain the coronavirus pandemic. We are confident that, if necessary, they will subsequently be able to provide support to Russia, if required.
We, of course, noted the statement of the US State Department regarding the importance of joint efforts in the fight against coronavirus. In particular, it said, I quote: “both countries have provided each other with humanitarian assistance in the past, and without a doubt, they will provide it again in the future. It's time to work together to defeat the common enemy that threatens the lives of each of us." We fully share this approach. Now is the time to work together,” added the Foreign Ministry representative.
