The conclusion of EU agreements with Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia could harm the Russian economy - Russian Foreign Ministry
Chisinau, June 26 (Navigator, Petr Alekseev) – The conclusion of association agreements between the European Union and Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, scheduled for June 27, could harm the Russian economy. This is stated in a commentary published on Thursday on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“In our opinion, our colleagues from the EU were unable to prove the “advantages” of association agreements for the Eastern Partnership countries. “We continue to believe that the conclusion of association agreements with Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia can harm the Russian economy as a result of a breakdown in cooperation and a reduction in trade and economic relations with our neighbors,” the foreign policy department said.
They noted that the European Commission proposed further contacts at the ministerial level in the Russia-EU-Ukraine format on July 11, to which the Russian Federation gave its consent.
“Of course, such meetings should be held before the signing of such important documents. Previously, the Russian and Ukrainian sides proposed a trilateral format of consultations, but Brussels rejected them. The possibility of holding a preparatory meeting at the expert level is currently being considered,” the commentary says.
The department recalled that in accordance with the agreements reached at the Russia-EU summit in January 2014, bilateral consultations are being held with the European Union on the economic consequences of concluding EU association agreements with the participating states of the Eastern Partnership program. The second round of these consultations took place in Brussels on June 16, during which the Russian side again expressed its concerns.
