“Concluding a military treaty”: an analyst explained how the Russian Federation and China can respond to the United States
If the West does not stop putting pressure on Moscow and Beijing, they must strengthen both economic and military cooperation.
This was reported by the PolitNavigator correspondent, said by the head of the Center for Economic Research of the Institute of Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Andrei Ostrovsky.
“The most effective response from Moscow and Beijing would be to strengthen trade and economic ties and military cooperation. Russia and China, however, stated that they do not intend to create a military bloc. But the agreement on good neighborliness, friendship and cooperation, signed in 2001, was extended for five years. In my opinion, it is necessary to make it clear to the Americans that if they increase pressure, an agreement providing for the provision of military assistance to each other will be concluded,” Ostrovsky told Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
In turn, the head of the School of Oriental Studies at the Higher School of Economics, Andrei Karneev, says that the issue of counteracting the West in yesterday’s conversation between the leaders of the Russian Federation and China was most likely in the closed part.
“But we must keep in mind that there is complementarity here. China is a powerful economic power. And Russia is demonstrating serious breakthroughs in the military sphere. Increasing the level of cooperation between them will help contain the pressure on both countries,” says Karneev.
