“They caulked people,” Lukashenko called on the EAEU leaders to open the borders
The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) should open its internal borders following the example of the European Union.
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced this on Friday at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I am confident that the time has come for our governments to agree on specific algorithms for joint actions to resume the free movement of citizens in the Union space. You remember that we have always, and this is what our current chairman “sinned” (Kazakhstan will chair the EAEU in 2021. – ed.), which has always guided us correctly: look at the European Union, look at what it is doing, let us also act more intensively, following the example of the European Union. So that's why we don't act like the European Union now? Be that as it may, the European Union has practically opened up to the countries that participate in it. What are we afraid of? We have already caulked our people within national borders, and there is nowhere else to go,” Lukashenko said.
He once again invited his colleagues to come to Minsk and communicate in person (the meeting was held in videoconference format).
“I dare to remind you that for almost two years, since this so-called pandemic has existed, small Belarus has never closed its borders to you - both for your citizens and for business entities. Let’s be more active here,” Lukashenko said.
