Kyiv, July 08 (Navigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – A draft law has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, which proposes to deprive Ukrainian citizenship of persons who “have committed crimes against the fundamentals of national security of Ukraine.”
The author of the document was People's Deputy of Ukraine Valentin Korolyuk (Batkivshchyna).

It is proposed to add a new type of additional punishment to seven articles of Section I of the Special Part of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Crimes against the fundamentals of national security” - termination of citizenship.
For some reason, the explanatory note to the bill draws an analogy with castration: “... a norm is being introduced that will allow society to adequately respond to crimes of the corresponding category. But, in contrast to a similar “categorical” rule - an additional punishment in the form of chemical castration for those convicted of committing crimes on a sexual basis, which exists, for example, in Moldova and Russia, a person will have the opportunity to restore his citizenship after the occurrence of the circumstances established by the new rule "
A person whose citizenship is “terminated” will not be able to vote, will lose land (if he owned it), and will have to prove the right to marry and do business. Restoration of citizenship occurs upon application after expungement or expungement of a criminal record.
