Slavyansk, April 29 (Navigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – In Germany, the special forces of the Bundeswehr KSK and the special forces unit of the German police GSG9 are on alert: it is possible that the German authorities are considering the option of conducting a special operation to free the hostages in Slavyansk.

The corresponding assumption is voiced by the German publication Bild, InoPressa reports.

As Navigator reported, in Slavyansk the rebels have four German citizens - three military personnel and a translator. “People’s Mayor” Vyacheslav Ponomarev did not rule out the possibility of exchanging people held by the militias for DPR supporters detained by the Ukrainian authorities. In total, according to various sources, the rioters detained up to 40 people. So far the negotiations have not yielded concrete results.

According to Bild, special forces from Germany need only a few hours to arrive in Ukraine and begin a liberation operation from territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities.

The issue of using Ukrainian special forces for such operations is not being considered. “Many of our soldiers would not be ready to shoot at their compatriots,” one senior Ukrainian government official told the publication. “Therefore, such a special operation can only be carried out with foreign assistance.”

As Christian Democratic Union defense expert Florian Hahn noted, “you should only think about such an option if there is a real threat to the lives of the hostages. But not before."

The Bundeswehr special forces KSK, reminiscent of Bild, is an elite unit of the German army. The main task of the special forces is to free hostages on enemy territory and capture terrorists. The unit, in particular, participated in the capture of a number of Taliban leaders in Afghanistan.
