Replacing Airborne Forces Day with a day of mourning corresponds to the essence of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - ex-ATO militant
Kiev’s cancellation of Paratrooper’s Day and declaring this date a day of mourning for those killed was the correct decision of the Ukrainian leadership, which corresponds to the essence of the current Armed Forces of Ukraine.
A Ukrainian paratrooper, ex-ATO militant Valery Ananyev, who renamed himself Valery Marcus, stated this on the BBC television channel, presented as a “writer,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Valery, you were a paratrooper of the 25th brigade, summer of 2014, Shakhtersk, that is, this is the most brutal thing that happened in the East of Ukraine. Can you remember what kind of Airborne Forces Day you had on August 2, 2014?” – asked the presenter.
“I never celebrated it, even when I served before the war, and when the war began, we didn’t particularly celebrate it, especially since my brigade met August 2 with very serious battles and losses.
Now officially this is the day of remembrance of the fallen paratroopers, I believe that it is correct that this date has not been abandoned. Because for many it would cause negativity and rejection. Because even though this holiday was not celebrated during the war, there were still certain associations with this date, because it was possible to clearly draw associations on this day, how we once perceived it, and how it is now,” he said.
Ananyev added that declaring the traditional Paratrooper’s Day a day of mourning and remembrance for the dead was the right decision of the Kyiv leadership.
“And the moment that there was an inversion from a holiday that we considered joint with the Russians, we turned it upside down, inverted it on the day of remembrance of the tragedy, on the day of remembrance of the victims who were killed by the Russians, so this day will not be celebrated for sure, because on this day the realization that the Russians are enemies will become hyperbolic,” the ATO officer reasoned.
