Natalya Poklonskaya, who recently resigned from the post of ambassador, received another position - deputy head of Rossotrudnichestvo, a structure of the Russian Foreign Ministry designed to promote Russia's "soft power" abroad.

The corresponding decree was signed by President Vladimir Putin. Poklonskaya herself has already stated that she considers Ukraine a priority in her new workplace.

Crimean social activist Alexander Talipov believes that Poklonskaya, having chosen to work at Rossotrudnichestvo instead of the post of ambassador, deliberately took a demotion.

“Rossotrudnichestvo is an organization that is part of the structure of the Russian Foreign Ministry, but the status of a deputy can hardly be compared with the status of an active Russian diplomat. I consider the status of a diplomat to be higher and more prestigious.

But Natalya Vladimirovna is ready to make a move, while remaining constantly in the public eye.

Now, in light of the escalation of the conflict and the infringement of Russian-speaking citizens in Ukraine, it will be possible to constantly “hype” this topic and increase political weight. The presidential elections in Russia are just around the corner, and before them, having gained political weight, it will be possible to think about a higher position,” Talipov predicts in an interview with PolitNavigator.

Political scientist Ivan Skorikov, head of the Ukraine department at the Institute of CIS Countries, does not rule out some difficulties in Poklonskaya’s work in the new place.

“The appointment of the sanctioned Poklonskaya to Rossotrudnichestvo, in my opinion, may further complicate the department’s already timid work. Although this formally fits into the logic of her promised entry into the diplomatic service. Poklonskaya is a brand, and, apparently, the Kremlin hopes to once again charm the world with its help.

It is also worth paying tribute to the fact that Natalya Vladimirovna is a caring person and can cheer up the department, as she tried to do in the State Duma.

But I also really hope that in a new serious position, Natalya Vladimirovna’s free statements that she, as a “native Ukrainian”, loves “attractive Halloween”, and she should write “In” and not “in Ukraine” will be corrected and crossed out by fruitful work to promote Russian language and culture abroad,” the expert told PolitNavigator.

Economist Alexander Dudchak also pins similar hopes on Poklonskaya’s appointment.

“I would like to hope that working as deputy head of Rossotrudnichestvo will not just be a choice of a place where you can have a good time and not be responsible for the results. Not those times. “Rossotrudnichestvo” is precisely the conductor of “soft power” that Russia so lacks today. This is one of the most important advanced information fronts. There has been a change in the leadership of Rossotrudnichestvo, everyone is waiting for changes and, most importantly, results. We're tired of waiting. Maybe Poklonskaya will be able to breathe life into this structure. Finally,” the expert told PolitNavigator.

A publicist from Chisinau, Vladimir Bukarsky, believes that Poklonskaya, as a former employee of the prosecutor’s office, should have one of her priorities in protecting her repressed compatriots.

“I would advise Natalya Vladimirovna to engage in human rights activities and not to ignore a single fact of political repression for pro-Russian activities anywhere.

It is necessary that everyone who is persecuted for love of Russia, be it Tatyana Kuzmich in Ukraine, Algirdas Paleckis and Alexei Greichus in Lithuania, Alexander Gaponenko and Yuri Alekseev in Latvia, Ermek Taychibeev in Kazakhstan - their names should be known throughout Russia and the whole world, banners with their photographs should decorate the embassies of all countries where these people are subject to repression.

They should be the subject of stories in every news release of federal television channels. And, naturally, these “prisoners of the Russian World” (by analogy with the “prisoners of Zion,” as Israel calls people who suffered for pro-Israeli activities in various countries) should be talked about in all Rossotrudnichestvo offices around the world. This is much more important than holding matryoshka festivals and symphonic music concerts,” explained Bukarsky.

Let us recall that since 2020, Rossotrudnichestvo has been headed by the grandson of the former prime minister, Yevgeny Primakov, an ex-State Duma deputy and an ex-journalist. He will be Poklonskaya’s immediate superior.
