The West is powerless over Serbia's cooperation with China
Even a change of leadership in Serbia will not affect the country’s cooperation with China.
The publication “New Europe” writes about this in the article “Dark clouds over Serbia”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
“Even among the Serbian opposition there is no significant criticism of China in the media.
The Chinese Communist Party seeks to further strengthen this positive outlook by developing ties with cultural and political elites (including the political opposition) and creating institutions that could help shape the image of China in the future,” the article says.
China supports the Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development, which is headed by former Serbian Foreign Minister and opposition politician Vuko Jeremic.
It hosts events and publishes publications on the benefits of the Belt and Road Initiative and the expansion of China-Serbia relations.
The institute is partly funded through CEFC China Energy, which is affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party.
The author recalls with bitterness that the foundation of the Chinese-Serbian partnership was laid back in 2009 by the pro-European center-left government of Serbia, which signed a strategic partnership agreement with China.
