The West is afraid of cold weather and is putting pressure on Ukraine to agree to Gazprom’s conditions
Kyiv, October 04 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – The result achieved as a result of trilateral gas negotiations in Berlin is far from what Ukraine expected when resorting to EU mediation.
The Ukrainian weekly “Correspondent” writes about this in an article devoted to the results of the negotiations. At the same time, the publication makes it clear that it was the European side that insisted on a speedy resolution of the gas dispute, influencing Ukraine’s position.

“Ukraine’s refusal to supply gas from the Russian Federation and the small volume of reserves may cause interruptions in the transit of Russian gas to the EU,” the publication notes. “Consequently, it is in the interests of the Europeans to do everything possible to ensure that Ukraine purchases a volume of fuel sufficient to at least ensure transit.”
The magazine also focuses on the fact that Ukraine currently has no alternative to Russian gas. “After Gazprom used additional leverage over European companies, Naftogaz was faced with a reduction in reverse flows,” the publication states.
As is known, Kyiv, unlike Moscow and Brussels, officially only recognized the fact of negotiations, but did not report any specific agreements.
“The silence of the Ukrainian side can be explained by the fact that the result brought by them from Berlin bears little resemblance to victory,” Korrespondent suggests. – The amount of debt is fixed, money needs to be sought urgently, temporary price (385 dollars per 1000 cubic meters. – ed.) – exactly the one that Gazprom insisted on, plus the prepayment condition has not gone away.”
