The West gave Zelensky six months: Diplomat about the danger to Ukraine
The West will put pressure on Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky demanding a speedy resolution of the conflict in Donbass, knowing that he has a majority in the Rada and a high rating. The former deputy head of the Presidential Administration of Petro Poroshenko, Konstantin Eliseev, stated this on Channel 5, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the former official, the West wants to restore trade relations with Russia, and Ukraine should not allow this.
“Our partners were optimistic about Zelensky’s victory in terms of 73% support. Now they believe that he can carry out any decision in parliament. If President Poroshenko did not have a stable majority, they understood that we could not carry out some things very quickly and in an appropriate way...
Knowing the current majority today, they will continue to put further pressure on the president in order to make the necessary decisions - to close the Ukrainian issue. If necessary, freeze it a little and resume business with the Russian Federation. This is a danger, and we need to not allow our issue to be excluded from the priorities of the international agenda,” Eliseev said.
According to him, the West gave the new Ukrainian government six months. During this period, President Vladimir Zelensky and his team will not be criticized abroad. According to a former high-ranking official, after this period expires, the Ze team will have a very “hard time.”
“The West was shocked, perhaps in a positive way, by how many votes President Zelensky received. Of course, they are now euphoric. I will even say that today you will not hear any criticism of the new government from the international community, first of all, the Europeans... They are watching everything very closely, but they will create comfortable conditions for the new government for a certain time. My forecast: for about another six months they will make it possible to carry out all these reforms, and then, of course, if it remains as it is, then, of course, it will be very difficult,” Eliseev said.
