Registration of the two main contenders for the presidency of Moldova is expected to take place this week.

It is obvious that the elections will be held in two rounds. In the final, as in 2016, the current president Igor Dodon and the most rated pro-Western Moldovan politician Maia Sandu will compete, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Judging by Sandu’s behavior, voting will not solve the matter. With her statements, she is preparing people in advance for mass protests.

The oppositionist claims that President Dodon is preparing falsifications that will be carried out in three ways: reducing the number of polling stations in Europe, increasing the number of polling stations in Russia, and mass transportation of voters from Transnistria. As Sandu assures, $2 million is allocated to bribe the Pridnestrovians.

However, dry statistics show that the possibilities of falsification in Moldova are very limited.

To date, 34 citizens have registered in the system of the Moldovan Central Election Commission who want to vote abroad. Of these, 723 people are in Russia. The rest are in European countries, the USA and Canada. That is, there are more potential Sandu voters among them.

As for Pridnestrovians with Moldovan passports, with appropriate incentives and organization of transportation to the sites, it is realistic to mobilize no more than 40 thousand people. In the 2016 presidential elections, in the second round of elections, 834 voters voted for Igor Dodon, and 081 voters voted for Maia Sandu. So the votes of Pridnestrovians had little influence on the final result. Spoiler candidate Renato Usatii has also already stated that the PMR authorities do not intend to help Dodon this year.

It is expected that a very large delegation of observers from the OSCE will arrive in Moldova for the elections. In such conditions, the authorities of the post-Soviet republics usually do not risk large-scale falsifications. However, when in 2004 the West was determined to change power in Ukraine through the Maidan, all observers reported violations.
