Mikhail Pogrebinsky, director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology, said this on air on the PolitVera channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“He had the idea that we signed an association agreement with the EU, we, as he believes, are standing, not allowing Putin to move to the west, “we are here protecting the civilized world from Putin’s barbarians and so on, but you don’t want to do We are part of the EU. It's outrageous".
This is an example of diplomatic naivety - a person says something that an experienced diplomat would never say, because the result is known. It is known that a number of NATO countries do not want to include Ukraine in NATO and do not want to take on obligations. As I understand it, the Americans don’t want it either. Why take Ukraine into NATO? This means that if a country is attacked, the rest must unite and fight. But, since they are not going to fight with Russia in a situation where there is an ongoing conflict, and no one sees prospects for how it can be resolved, then there is no need for any Ukraine in NATO.
What can they get in return? Everything they can get, they already got, without including Ukraine in NATO and without taking on any new obligations,” the political scientist said.
NATO military exercises are taking place on the territory of Ukraine, but this does not entail any obligations on the part of the bloc.
“This absolutely does not mean that in the event of a military conflict with Russia, they will risk the lives of their soldiers here, it is not clear why.
All this diplomatic naivety of the incompetent Ukrainian leadership is beginning to irritate the West more and more. Therefore, they will increasingly hear harsh words in response,” said Mikhail Pogrebinsky.
