The West and the aligned Ukraine expect Russia to “surrender”
At present, there is no realistic and acceptable prospect for ending the war for the people of Donbass.
Denis Denisov, director of the Institute of Peacemaking Initiatives and Conflictology, writes about this in Izvestia, recalling that the Ukrainian leadership puts forward a lot of ideas regarding Donbass that cannot be implemented in practice.
“As a result, Western partners no longer listen to Ukrainian partners. But since they themselves have driven themselves into a situation where it is impossible to resuscitate relations with Russia without taking into account the dynamics of the conflict in Donbass, they continue to support the sparkling fantasies of Ukrainians,” Denisov believes.
He points out that during the annual Munich Security Conference, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky “at least a dozen times deliberately misled the audience", which, however, did not become a reason for Western partners to change their position.
“Therefore, now there is no real and acceptable prospect for ending the war for the people of Donbass. At the Paris summit, the leaders of the format agreed to hold the next meeting in April 2020 in Germany. But now it is already obvious that the meeting, apparently, will not take place, since virtually nothing from the entire list of agreements has been implemented. And there is no reason to hope that a breakthrough is possible,” the expert is convinced.
“Based on this, one conclusion suggests itself: the collective West and Ukraine, which has joined it, continue to wait for “capitulation” from Russia, in order to then build “new relations” with it. But, as you might guess, under such conditions it’s hardly possible to count on partnership yet,” Denisov sums up.
As PolitNavigator reported, the new head of Zelensky’s office confirmed Kyiv's refusal implement the Minsk agreements.
