The West has begun preparing Zelensky's successor
Former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Elena Zerkal, who oversaw international claims against the Russian Federation until recent resignation, is being prepared by the West for the role of a future presidential candidate after Vladimir Zelensky leaves office.
This is stated in the blog of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, headed by political scientist Ruslan Bortnik.
“They say that Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Elena Zerkal is leaving her post for the sake of a political career. Some of the “Western partners” consider her as a real candidate for the presidency of Ukraine in the next regular or early elections.
After the New Year, she can lead a professional and public initiative to maintain activity in Ukrainian lawsuits against the Russian Federation in international courts. This information affected the relationship between Zerkal and the office of the president and the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the message says, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Mirror itself responded evasively in an interview with Deutsche Welle about political prospects.
“I have problems with the perception that in fact I have already become a politician, because I worked in a political position for five years. Because my statements are perceived as political. As for the future, I don’t know how it will turn out, we’ll see,” Zerkal said.
