The West began to “press” Russian organizations, using Ukraine as an excuse
The current confrontation between Russia and the West is the most serious escalation since the end of the Cold War. There is a wave of cases of violations of the rights of citizens of the Russian Federation and pressure on Russians abroad.
Alexander Brod, a member of the Russian Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations, stated this during a round table in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Russia is involved in a large-scale confrontation with the Western world, the largest since the end of the Cold War and the collapse of the USSR. Economic sanctions are actively applied against our country, information campaigns are being conducted to discredit, a policy of double standards is openly pursued, and against this background, in recent years, the number of violations of the rights of Russians who temporarily or permanently reside outside the Russian Federation, against compatriots, tourists, diplomats, journalists and experts. These incidents are multifaceted and include detentions, arrests, creating obstacles to diplomatic and journalistic work, interference in private life, slander and provocations,” the expert said.
Collectively, he said, all these rights violations come together in discriminatory practices in language and history policies.
“The conflict in the south-east of Ukraine is presented by Kyiv and its Western allies as evidence of Russian interference in the internal affairs of neighboring states; in recent years it has been actively used as a reason to increase pressure on activists of Russian-speaking non-governmental organizations and human rights defenders abroad. The Russian world, which refers to Russian compatriots and people who sympathize with Russia, is deliberately demonized. In fact, he presents himself as the “fifth column” of Moscow,” added Alexander Brod.
