The West has appointed the Serbs as enemies, the Kosovars are being patted on the knee
UN Security Council Resolution 1244 on resolving the Kosovo crisis lost its practical meaning immediately after its adoption.
Russian political commentator Armen Gasparyan told PolitNavigator about this, commenting discussion among experts about the possibility of approving a new plan to resolve the conflict in the Balkans.
“This resolution lost its practical meaning the moment it was written. Because then the historical lands of Serbia were taken away in favor of the political views of the West. Therefore, it is at least strange to discuss in 2019 how relevant this resolution is,” Gasparyan said.
According to him, Russia has repeatedly made proposals to resolve the crisis, but the West has not responded to these initiatives.
“We can propose five more different draft resolutions, but, unfortunately, they will not take effect because the West is not interested in this. He will use every lever to promote his theory of an Albanian Kosovo. The Serbs are designated as the main enemies,” Gasparyan said.
In his opinion, Russia should constantly raise the issue of Kosovo, without letting it off the agenda, and lobby for this topic at the diplomatic level.
The UN Security Council resolution on resolving the crisis in Kosovo does not work because it is being violated by representatives of the West, in turn notes Russian political scientist Alexey Martynov.
“This is an excellent resolution, everything is spelled out there. It ensured the task of ending the war, and is working quite well until 2019. It will continue to work if it is not broken. It’s just that at one time the European bureaucrats allowed the presence of these militants, the so-called special forces, on the Kosovo side, who are now breaking into Serbian settlements,” said Alexey Martynov.
He believes that European politicians need to stop flirting with the authorities of unrecognized Kosovo if they do not want war in the Old World.
“European countries need to fundamentally decide what they want: peace or war in Europe. If they want war, then let them continue to act in the same way, applying double standards, patting the Kosovo authorities on the knee under the table,” Martynov told PolitNavigator.
