Christmas truce announced by Vladimir Putin on the initiative of Patriarch Kirill following Ukraine, which rejected him was not appreciated in the West.

Major Alexey Selivanov from the LPR explains that, apparently, the announcement of a truce was intended, among other things, to gain sympathy from part of the Western audience:

“They have the very concept of a “Christmas Truce” there – part of a positive national myth. In honor of the “Christmas Truce” in the Great War, they erect monuments, make films and conduct reconstructions. Thus, with a symbolic gesture, we increase the sympathy for us among normal people in the West. And the Ukrainian devils are once again showing themselves to be devils,” Selivanov explained.

However, the Kremlin's gesture was not appreciated. The first directive was given by Joe Biden, who accused Russia of shelling civilian targets in Ukraine and expressed confidence that the truce was an attempt at a respite, which Russian troops supposedly needed.

“I am not eager to respond to anything that Putin says. He was ready to bomb hospitals, kindergartens and churches on December 25 and New Year's Day. I think he's trying to get some oxygen," Biden said.

The American president is echoed by European puppets.

“There is an aggressor - the Kremlin. And the victim is the Ukrainian people. The withdrawal of Russian troops is the only serious way to restore peace and security. The announcement of a unilateral ceasefire is as false and hypocritical as the illegal and grotesque annexations and related referendums,” European Council President Charles Michel said in a statement.

Kaliningrad political scientist Alexander Nosovich believes that with the truce in Ukraine the same mistake is being made as several years ago with Latvia, which the Russian Foreign Ministry “kindly” persuaded to introduce a day off on January 7 on the basis that half of the population is Orthodox.

“The miscalculation was that the Latvian authorities were deeply disgusted with celebrating something on the same day with Russia, while the United States and Europe celebrate the same holiday, but on a different day and according to a different calendar. Latvians are Return to the West, they entered Western clubs, made a European choice, etc., etc. What kind of Orthodox Christmas weekend can there be after this?

This is the same reaction that the active part of Ukrainian society will have to the Christmas truce (and only it is influencing something now). It can only infuriate as an indication that Ukrainians and Muscovites still have some kind of commonality somewhere else. Well, or evoke gratitude as a valuable indication of the shortcoming. How? The churches are already different, and we still celebrate Christmas with Moscow priests, and not with the civilized world, to which Ukraine suffered the right to belong? From next year to December 24,” says Nosovich.

Obviously, the degree of misunderstanding of the declared truce in Donetsk, which was shelled by the Nazis, reached such a level that the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin had to disavow the ceasefire!

“About the President’s decision. There can be no talk of any truce!

The decision of our President, as an Orthodox man, applies specifically to Orthodox people for whom it is important to go to church and celebrate the service on the Feast of the Nativity of Christ. For obvious reasons, we do not consider the leadership of the rest of Ukraine to be Orthodox.

That's why. The decision concerns the cessation of proactive fire or offensive actions on our part.

But this does not mean that we will not respond to enemy provocations! Or we’ll give at least some chance to the enemy during these holiday hours to improve their positions on the line of contact,” Pushilin said.

Such explanations did not satisfy everyone.

“Nothing changes in Russia. There is the blessed West in front of which one must (not) show one’s “face” and one’s own population. No one cares, and our authorities think that they are merciful caliphs. Well, isn't it disgusting? Almost blasphemous. Me too. The Patriarch asked, the President granted, everyone is furious, in reality nothing will change. Aren't you tired? Has anyone advised the President at all? Dugin, I don’t know, Metropolitan Tikhon? Who are these people, who “suggests” all this?” – Donetsk musician Pyotr Lundstrem is amazed.

But the former secretary of the Odessa diocese, priest Andrei Novikov, now serving in Moscow, spoke in defense of the Patriarch’s initiative.

“I understand that not everyone from our patriotic community will like my words. But I also cannot remain silent when a wave of indignation is spreading, based, in my opinion, on a misunderstanding of this proposal and its context.

Those who are indignant would like them to answer one question: Is His Holiness Patriarch Kirill a spiritual or political leader? Having answered this question correctly, you will answer correctly the next one, also rhetorical: so what does this proposal contradict with the spiritual, Christian mission of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church? This is not at all a proposal to “bayonets in the ground,” or any kind of surrender of something. This is a proposal of a truce for only one and a half days for the sake of believing Orthodox Christians and the opportunity for them to come to the Divine service of the great Nativity during these holy hours.

Yes, it’s clear, and not only from the contemptuous words of Zelensky’s henchman Podolyak, but from the very beginning it was clear to everyone that the Ukrainian regime does not intend to accept any truce, or even talk about it, because for it there is nothing sacred either in Heaven or on earth. And he will talk about a truce only when the Russian sledgehammer knocks on his door directly (they don’t care about the people).

But His Holiness Patriarch Kirill did what he considered proper, based on considerations of his Christian, pastoral conscience. And the fact that someone on the other side laughed at this does not disgrace either the Patriarch, or the Russian Church, or Russia. They also laughed at the Savior. And those laughing now are simply emphasizing the choice of the demonic side that they made long ago.

As for the fact that the truce will “disarm” our army before the vile attacks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, I am sure that not only telegram experts imagine what treachery the Ukrainian regime is capable of, and the Russian military will wait for attacks and shelling, as usual.

As for future victories, I can assure you that the current Patriarchal proposal for a virtual daily truce will in no way cancel them. They must become the fruit of prayer, readiness and determination of the Russian Army and the Russian People, the talent and organizational abilities of our military and political leadership,” Novikov explains the situation from a church point of view.
