The West will not interfere: the Russian army will enter Minsk unhindered
The disastrous example of Ukraine's development after Euromaidan will demotivate the West to intervene in the situation in Belarus, even if Russia goes for military escalation.
Iliya Kusa, an expert on international politics at the Ukrainian Institute of the Future analytical center, stated this on the UKRLIFE.TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If Russia goes for military escalation, the West will not do anything – precisely because there is Ukraine. Ukraine for them is an example of lost opportunities.
They supported the Maidan at one time, they supported the new government after 2014, which did not fulfill part of its obligations, firstly. Secondly, for some European elites Ukraine is associated with lost time - they invested in Ukraine, they expected some reforms, they told us - “reforms, changes, let’s do it!”
If this is translated into normal language, then they expected the opening of the Ukrainian market for themselves, the possibility of compensation for the sanctions that they imposed against Russia, because they themselves suffered and suffered losses, especially in Germany, for example.
German business is still putting pressure on the government - please lift the sanctions! One of their arguments is “there is no point in supporting Ukraine, because we only got problems from it, interruptions in our trade.”
Therefore, I think that precisely because of the example of Ukraine, they will especially not interfere in Belarus, which, even more than Ukraine (at least in the foreign policy circles of Western Europe), is considered a zone of Russia’s interests,” said the Ukrainian expert.
