The West will not impose sanctions due to Russia’s recognition of the LDPR
It is high time for Russia to stop trade with Ukraine and impose tough sanctions against it.
This opinion was expressed by the head of the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy at Moscow State University, Nikolai Platoshkin, on the Rossiya 24 TV channel, a PolitNavignator correspondent reports.
“Our trade turnover with Ukraine is growing. This is disgusting, you know? This is what our business earns from blood. Ukrainian tanks in Donbass, what are they driving, actually? How long will this outrage continue? Until when will Sberbank not work in Crimea, but will work in Ukraine? They squeezed him out, of course, but he didn’t leave there voluntarily, and he doesn’t come to Crimea, and we’re talking about some kind of Western sanctions. Yes, we must first understand ourselves. Introduce normal sanctions against Ukraine. In America, the sanctions regime is everyday. Something is happening - the State Department Bureau of Sanctions is introducing all this specifically.
The Ternopil City Council votes against the Russian language - Russia is silent and does not react at all. Why aren’t all these deputies immediately, on this day, added to the sanctions list, so that others would at least think that this is actually bad? In Nikolaev, the word “Russian” is being removed from the Russian Drama Theater. There are specific officials who sign all this, they are not hiding anywhere, their names are known.
Why is the Russian Federation silent at the level of the Foreign Ministry? To apply to the Security Council, knowing that they would reject it - what was the point in this, I cannot understand. Once again the Ukrainians declared that they won?” the expert said.
Also, answering the presenter’s question whether Russia should wait for Western sanctions, he expressed the opinion that there would be no sanctions.
"No. For this incident, no. And if we had recognized the LDPR, nothing would have happened either. The West introduced everything it could against us in the economic sphere. I heard songs on all channels: “They will disconnect from SWIFT”, banks or something... But none of this will happen, because these sanctions will hit them harder than us,” concluded Platoshkin.
Let us remind you that earlier PolitNavigator cited a statement by ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Tsarev that The Russian Federation made serious mistakes when it recognized the power of Petro Poroshenko and did not allow the Donbass militias to reach Kharkov.
