The West has not fulfilled its old promises, but is trying to impose new conditions on Russia
Russia should develop its armed forces in accordance with state interests, and not blindly follow Western initiatives.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with Izvestia by the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense, Vladimir Komoyedov, commenting on the initiative of the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who called for the conclusion of a new arms control treaty with Russia in order to avoid an escalation of tensions in Europe.
“I’m not against sitting down at the negotiating table and agreeing on something, but I categorically don’t like the word “control”. With whom are we offered to negotiate on parity, and especially on control? With the German Bundeswehr, which in all respects today is inferior to the Russian armed forces? There are too many irresponsible controllers. Everyone really wants to control Russia, but our partners themselves are not responsible for their words: they easily enter into agreements, and then just as easily do not fulfill them or change them at their own discretion,” Komoyedov emphasized.
“Remember: we fulfilled all our obligations, withdrew all Soviet troops from Europe to almost an open field, and we were promised that NATO would not move east,” he added. – Has anyone fulfilled this agreement? The Americans signed the ABM Treaty with us in 1972, and then withdrew from it unilaterally. I am generally silent about the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, which the United States is now violating without a twinge of conscience. They again tell all these fairy tales to put us in a knee-elbow position, to control us. But Russia has shown that it is a fairly sensible power. We will develop our armed forces to the extent necessary to protect our interests and the interests of our allies and partners anywhere in the world.”
