The West is turning away from Ukraine, a pro-Russian revenge is taking place in the country - Poroshenko
The main challenge that Ukraine faces now is the loss of support from the West.
Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said this on the air of the Direct TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As the first challenge, I would name the erosion of international solidarity with Ukraine from the world. I consider this an obvious and main miscalculation of the current government, when the cemented coalition that my team and I spent five years building is now experiencing such erosion. And with great difficulty, sanctions continue, and already Ukraine, its protection, unfortunately, is leaving the agenda of international organizations and our partners. And if it appears, it appears in a scandalous, sad way, as for example it is happening now in the USA.
I think that the attempt to slow down our European and Euro-Atlantic integration is also a challenge. Conversations are fine. But when it comes to the President of Ukraine taking part in the NATO summit in London in December this year, for some reason he does not appear there, so as not to irritate someone.
When it comes to us making a decision to include the MAP in NATO on the agenda, granting it to us (I emphasize once again - this is not just an obligation of Ukraine, but it is an obligation of the West and NATO member countries to provide us with this status after doing our homework ) - so here too, despite the fact that the parliament supported the resolution of my authorship, it did not reach practical implementation.
Unfortunately, we now see attempts to restore political persecution from the time of Yanukovych, and pressure on volunteers, and pressure on ATO soldiers, and an attempt to undermine the authority of the army, and much, much more,” the ex-president said.
He believes that today in the country there is a revenge of those forces against which Poroshenko himself fought.
“Is revenge possible? Available. Moreover, it is being implemented. And this is not just the absence of Ukraine at NATO summits, it is not just the absence of steps to implement the MAP and the national security law, which was adopted by me, which clearly outlines the schedules we must take for integration into NATO. These are also the initiatives of individual deputies of the ruling mono-majority to repeal the law on the Ukrainian language. What it is? Why are you doing this? We definitely won’t let it be cancelled. But this is definitely a conflict within the state, a split in the state. Stop.
This, of course, is also the position on attacks on the OCU, when individual representatives of law enforcement agencies interfere and the activities of parishes that interfere with take other steps that impede our church, which is recognized by world Orthodoxy. Only in the last few weeks, the Church of Greece and the Church of Alexandria, together with the Ecumenical Patriarchate, recognize our church. And these processes will definitely continue in 20. I know, I am working, among other things, in this direction. And preventing this is revenge,” Poroshenko said.
