The West has ceased to be the center, there will be no big war
Russia pays too much attention to the West, for example, at one time pinning its hopes on Donald Trump coming to power in the United States, while the countries of the East with rapidly growing economies are becoming the real new world center.
Russian international political scientist Fyodor Lukyanov stated this on radio Baltkom, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Provincialism is when you feel dependent on someone else and, accordingly, react to other people’s events as important to you. This must now be overcome even more than before, because it does not at all correspond to the modern world.
In the modern world, Western-centrism makes no sense, because the West has ceased to be the center. There are many centers, and the most growing center is the East. And the Russian problem is purely psychological. It's in our heads. Something needs to be done with her.
God forbid, I am not calling for a fight against the West, it just needs to be put in the place that it now occupies in the world palette. One of the important, but far from the only part of the world,” he said.
Lukyanov also explained why we should not expect a new large-scale war due to the US breaking the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.
“The guarantee that there will be no major world war is the presence of nuclear weapons in the two largest countries and a number of others, including China and so on. This is a guarantee, not the INF Treaty or START. Of course, the disappearance of the treaty system increases the level of uncertainty. But these agreements ended not because Russia or America violated something, this is an excuse that was used, but because the model itself has exhausted itself. The world is not like that and what was invented for the 60s and 70s no longer works now,” the expert concluded.
