The United States' accusations of hacking against six Russians and the British Foreign Office's statement about attempts by Russian intelligence services to disrupt the Tokyo Olympics with the help of cyber attacks are typical falsehoods that have turned into today's routine.

Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The coronavirus pandemic has further exposed the vulnerability of all countries, regardless of their political orientation and level of economic development, in the face of global challenges associated with the use of digital tools.

While the entire sensible world community is trying to establish constructive cooperation in the field of international information security and find ways to overcome the “cyberpandemic”, individual states continue to carry out the practice of unsubstantiated accusations against Russia of committing illegal actions in the information space.

This is exactly how we regard the charges brought by the US authorities against Russian citizens for hacking. These accusations were made publicly and a statement was published on October 19 on the official website of the British Foreign Office about attempts by Russian intelligence services to disrupt the upcoming Olympics in Tokyo using cyber attacks. I wouldn’t be surprised if a version later emerges that this Olympics was also postponed due to the actions of Russian hackers. Unfortunately, we also live in the world of an infodemic, as the UN Secretary-General spoke about, and such stuffing, unfortunately, is today’s routine,” Zakharova said.

At the same time, she emphasized that against the backdrop of the constantly heard “fabrications of the West about the actions of the almighty “Russian hackers,” Moscow’s repeated proposals to organize a meeting of experts to discuss the accumulated claims and contradictions remain unanswered.

“Unfortunately, instead of pragmatic expert cyber dialogue, the United States and its allies simply prefer to use false and far-fetched stories about Russian influence, constantly increasing the intensity of claims and bringing it to the level of absurdity.

We would like to once again remind the authors of the campaign, which is escalating the theme of “Russian hackers”, that in the context of the spread of coronavirus infection, it is important to focus on issues of international cooperation in the fight against the “cyberpandemic”, and not act in the opposite direction, exacerbating mistrust in the global information space, which , in turn, gives a free hand to real hackers,” added the Foreign Ministry representative.

As PolitNavigator reported, earlier the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov called such attacks against Russia a relapse of rabid Russophobiathat swept the West.
