The West has turned Donbass into a “pain point” for Russia – opinion
The West is using the situation in Donbass to weaken Russia's power and hit its economy.
Publicist, military doctor, participant in the fighting in Donbass and Syria, Yuri Evich, stated this on the air of the Roy TV Internet channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We need to clearly understand that Donbass is one of the pain points created through very long and painstaking enemy efforts. NATO, the British, states that are not members of NATO, but are their satellites, are exhausting Russia, creating another painful point through which they can influence Russia in order to weaken its power.
Because if a few years ago they asked me “Why isn’t Ukraine actively attacking and trying to return Donbass by force?”, I answered that they don’t need to attack. Firstly, Russia, one way or another, has to economically support Donbass, because in its current state Donbass cannot feed itself. This means that this is some kind of defeat for the Russian economy. Secondly, in Donbass people are now being injured and dying, from there they are refugees in Russia, and this is again a blow to the Russian economy,” the publicist said.
He noted that Russia must urgently deal with the Donbass problem, because the longer it delays, the worse it will be.
“Further, Donbass is a striking anti-example of what we fought for. We fought for the Russian World, but what we got was anti-advertising. Ukrainians are now writing in their groups: “Yes, we may not be happy with the president now, but when we see what is happening in Donbass, well, screw him, we don’t want this.” This topic can be discussed for a long time, but, unfortunately, it is absolutely impossible to do as in Donbass - this is an anti-example and repels potential allies and discredits the idea of joining Russia.
The more years this incomprehensible situation in Donbass drags on, the more the local population suffers there, and the whole world is shown that some kind of sub-state, supposedly Ukraine, can painfully hit Russia on the nose, kill Russian citizens, and nothing will happen to it for it. So much the worse for the external and internal political situation in Russia,” Evich concluded.
