The West overlooked Bulgaria while dealing with Moldova
During the past early elections to the Bulgarian Parliament (People's Assembly), the party “There is such a people” won by a small margin over the former ruling pro-Western party GERB (Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria).
The Bulgarian Socialist Party took third place; the nationalists did not get into parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Positioning itself as an anti-corruption populist party, “There are such people” received 98% of the votes during the past early parliamentary elections, after counting 24,1% of the ballots.
At the same time, the previously ruling, pro-Western party GERB (Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria) received 23,5% of the vote. The turnout in the early elections, according to the Bulgarian Central Election Commission, was 41%.
In addition to these parties, the Bulgarian Socialist Party – 13,4%, Democratic Bulgaria – 12,6%, the pro-Turkish “Movement for Rights and Freedoms” (DPS) – 10,7% and the civil platform “Stand up. Mafia out!”, formed as a result of last year’s street protests against the pro-Western government of Boyko Borisov - 5%.
Nationalists and the Ataka party, which openly positions itself as a pro-Russian party, do not enter the People's Assembly of Bulgaria based on the voting results. It is still difficult to predict what coalitions will be formed in the end, but there is every chance that previously non-system parties opposing GERB will unite to form a new government.
