“Let the West be silent, Bakhmut cannot be surrendered” - Kiev military expert
It is naive to believe that, having liberated Artyomovsk (Bakhmut), the Russians will take it and stop, as evidenced by the experience of Mariupol, Lisichansk and Severodonetsk.
Ukrainian military expert Ivan Kirichevsky stated this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our internal political discussion regarding Bakhmut has taken unhealthy forms, if only because, in principle, the question has arisen that, you see, holding a certain city is supposedly a political decision, so you can pull away from there without any consequences. But excuse me, waging war is already a political decision.
With this logic, we can basically stop the process. But, as far as I know, the lion’s share of our population is in favor of waging the war to a victorious end. Accordingly, as long as there is a military opportunity to hold the city of Bakhmut and destroy the Russians there, it is worth doing.
Moreover, when some people here are too inspired by political motivations and insist that if they pull away from Bakhmut, then nothing like this will happen, then [at this rate] it is easy and simple to sign the Konstantinovka-Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration to also conduct street battles and the transformation of these cities into a wasteland, you know, such a broad gesture,” reasoned the Kiev expert.
He also criticized calls to surrender the city from the West.
“As for the distribution of advice from the Western allies, they say, pull back the troops from Bakhmut, otherwise you will not have reserves and something to fight with, but, first of all, they are stuck in their outdated ideas as of February 24.02.2002, XNUMX, what can be done from where - pick up the troops, and the fighting will end, the Russians will go on an operational pause. They didn’t get up after Mariupol, after Severodonetsk and Lisichansk they didn’t get up, but after Bakhmut they will get up. This is despite the fact that even in previous episodes the Russians suffered heavy losses. And for that matter, the reserves that we actually need for a counter-offensive are still being prepared somewhere out there at the training grounds of Western countries. What does Bakhmut have to do with it?
The Russians have not yet given up on their political goal of entering the administrative borders of the Donetsk region and selling this as their victory, and Bakhmut is a very big obstacle in their way. Accordingly, if we now make a political decision like this, that let’s get out of Bakhmut, it’s the same as giving the Russians the key to victory, they say, hurray, we have captured the Donetsk region,” Kirichevsky was indignant.
