The West is split over the issue of anti-Russian sanctions – Rada deputy
The effect of anti-Russian sanctions, even those that were introduced after the start of the SVO in Ukraine, can only be felt by winter.
Member of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence of the Verkhovna Rada Sergei Rakhmanin said this on the Voice of America channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Even when the first packages of sanctions were just being discussed, most experts, including Western ones, with whom I spoke, they said that this is a very complex, subtle instrument and in fact assess the effectiveness of the impact of sanctions, even those that were adopted at the beginning of the war, the effect of these sanctions can be “felt”, measured with fingers, only by the end of the year.
Only in December-January will it be possible to understand how sensitive these sanctions are and how they can be expanded and deepened,” the deputy said.
“So far, the preliminary assessment is that the sanctions are half-hearted, it would be strange if they were not so, since for the West, in the matter of countering the Russians, it was very important for them not only to limit the capabilities of Russia, which was quite natural in view of its aggressive behavior, but also to preserve its unity.
Since Western countries have different views, different approaches, and it was important for them that the sanctions be consolidated, then, in general, some countries made concessions to each other in order for the sanctions mechanism to work at all,” Rakhmanin said.
