The West surrendered Ukraine to Putin in exchange for Greece – Bloomberg columnist
There is fear in Ukrainian society that a global backroom deal has taken place in which the West surrendered Ukraine to Russia in exchange for Greece agreeing to remain in the eurozone.

About it writes columnist Leonid Bershidsky in his column on the influential resource Bloomberg.
“Merkel suddenly has a huge reason to thank Vladimir, whose betrayal of the Greek “Marxists” allowed the eurozone to remain in its current form. The question then arises of what Putin received in exchange for the Greek government, whose fate was already in the hands of the former KGB spy,” writes Bershidsky.
Maybe non-intervention in Greece was part of the already European deal, and will allow Putin to freeze the Ukrainian conflict with the tacit approval of his Western opponents?, asks a Bloomberg columnist.
“Putin’s behavior, both in the Iran negotiations and in the Greek crisis, clearly shows that he is not a crazy dictator. He is doing everything he can to signal to Western leaders that he is a responsible player who is only aggressive when it comes to regions he considers his own. He clearly asks nothing in return from the West other than to turn a blind eye to its attempts to hold on to Ukraine and distance itself from anti-Russian Ukrainian leaders. The West’s reaction to the crisis in Ukraine will show us how right the conspiracy theorists are,” concludes Leonid Bershidsky.
