The West agreed to forgive Ukraine 20% of its debts and deferred the repayment of the loans taken for 4 years. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
“The default expected by our enemies will not take place. Ukraine has reached an agreement on restructuring and partial write-off of our debts,” he said.

“We managed to obtain the following conditions: 20% of the country’s debt obligations are written off by our creditors. The point is that almost 4 billion US dollars are being written off. Secondly, the cost of servicing our loans does not increase. Third: in the next 4 years, Ukraine will not repay the loan. And our obligations, which we had to pay since 2015, are postponed for 4 years,” Yatsenyuk listed.
“The conditions that Ukraine received were not received by any country since 2000 that did not declare a default. The average write-off without announcing a default was no more than 10%. Ukraine wrote off 20%,” the official said.
According to him, Russia did not join the countries that agreed to defer debts. However, Kyiv does not intend to pay the debt to Moscow (3 billion dollars must be found by the end of the year) and also demands a deferment and forgiveness of part of the debt.
“The Russian Federation has not joined the creditors’ committee. The Ukrainian government officially declares that the Russian Federation will not receive under any circumstances better conditions than other creditors receive. It's their decision. Either accept our conditions, or you will never get better conditions“, Yatsenyuk warned.
The head of the Ministry of Finance, Natalya Yaresko, clarified that after the decision of Western creditors, Ukraine’s total debt decreased from 19,3 to 15,5 billion dollars at an average rate of 7,75% per annum.
She expressed hope that all debts will be repaid, and “after 2020, the Ukrainian economy will grow more than the IMF predicts.”
Officials presented the news of the Western debt write-off as a great victory. The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov immediately, at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, presented Yatsenyuk and Yaresko with bouquets of flowers in vases made from shell casings in the so-called zone. ATO.
After the scheduled show ended, the press was asked to leave the venue.
