The West is tired and no longer wants to play along with Ukraine
The West has become disillusioned with Ukraine, which in five years has failed to demonstrate real reforms and a European course.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr stated this on the UkrLife Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are tired of the Crimean problem and the war in eastern Ukraine. They are tired because nothing is happening there and because everyone understands that there is no solution, no quick solution. The West no longer wants to take the position that in any matter it must agree to the Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian authorities, who, with the help of the West, want to get back Donbass and Crimea.
They were counting on the fact that the Ukrainian elites could destroy the Russian economy with sanctions, they want there to be even more sanctions, for the Americans to supply weapons and bring Russia to its knees, and it will give up, capitulate and all that. There are people who even in Germany think so, but a reasonable political view is different, he says: “Yes, we cannot fight with Russia, it is a nuclear power.”
Ukraine must, in many ways, try to build its own identity and its economy, but there are a lot of disappointments here, because after 14, after these pictures on the Maidan, when the West got the impression that Ukraine was simply running away from the “Russian bear” to the West and wants to reach the West as quickly as possible, copying the Western system in everything. And now five years have passed and it is clear that there is corruption, the legal system does not function as hoped,” Rahr said.
