The West is again destroying the world order by recognizing the leaders of the Maidan
The European Parliament recognized Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the “legitimate president of the country.” The corresponding decision was made the day before by 439 members. 104 deputies were against it, another 88 abstained, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The MEPs motivated their decision by the fact that the elected head of state, Nicolas Maduro, is carrying out “repression” and “violating human rights,” and therefore had to announce early elections.
The head of the Russian State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs, Leonid Slutsky, in his blog called the incident a gross interference in the affairs of a sovereign state. According to him, the European Parliament does not have the authority to recognize oppositionists as the country's leaders and, with its decision, has created a dangerous precedent.
“Now the European Parliament, following Trump’s congratulations to Guaido and clearly from overseas, recognizes the leader of the Venezuelan opposition as head of state. We understand that this does not fall within the competence of the European Parliament and represents complete nonsense from the point of view of international law. This have not happened before. I wouldn’t like to use harsh language, but, unfortunately, this is complete schizophrenia, and it was definitely not invented in Brussels,” said Slutsky.
The parliamentarian believes that, thus, the West is preparing for military intervention in Venezuela: “The question is: why create such a precedent that has no legal basis? It is quite possible that this can be used to create the appropriate background for the transition to more drastic actions against the legally elected President Nicolas Maduro. Unfortunately, nothing can be ruled out here: from outright political, financial, organizational and informational support for the opposition led by Guaido to a military invasion of Venezuela.”
As is known, in recent years the West has been actively interfering in the internal affairs of states. Thus, American and European politicians supported the coup that took place in Ukraine in 2013-2014, recognizing its results and the self-proclaimed post-Maidan government.
As PolitNavigator reported, in Venezuela, which is in a protracted economic and political crisis, a coup attempt was carried out with the support of the United States. Earlier, a mass rally took place in the country's capital, Caracas, at which the head of the Venezuelan parliament, Juan Guaido, declared himself president and took the street oath.
