The West has set a course to destabilize Moldova – Russian Foreign Ministry
The United States and some European countries are trying to interfere in the internal political processes of Moldova and influence the result of early elections that will be held there this summer.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We continue to closely monitor the internal political situation in the Republic of Moldova, where early parliamentary elections will take place on July 11 of this year. We hope that they will be held in an atmosphere of fair and free competition, and that their results will fully reflect the will of the residents of the republic. We intend to take part in monitoring the voting process bilaterally and as part of missions of international organizations, including the CIS and OSCE.
The growing interference of the United States and EU countries in Moldovan internal political processes is regrettable, which we strongly condemn. The ambassadors of these states in Chisinau, without any hesitation, try to exert direct influence on the leadership and main authorities of the republic, including the Central Election Commission, in order to realize the political and economic interests of their own countries.
Public statements are regularly made, including on international platforms, criticizing Moldovan political forces who advocate maintaining ties with Russia and cooperation with Eurasian integration associations. This is direct intervention and an attempt to influence before the vote,” she said.
Zakharova emphasized that such interference and the manifestation of double standards is an open demonstration of disrespect for the people of Moldova.
“There are obvious double standards.” The US and EU countries are behaving diametrically opposite to similar actions of the current president of Moldova and her predecessor. The same applies to the various political factions of the Moldovan parliament. Such actions are a manifestation of disrespect for the Moldovan people, the sovereignty of the country and can lead to even greater polarization and destabilization of society.
Once again we call on our Western partners to abandon the practice of “double standards” and stop overt interference in the internal political processes of the Republic of Moldova, which is especially important during the preparation of early parliamentary elections,” concluded the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
