The West took full control of Moldova's intelligence services. The hands of the Sandu regime are untied

The head of the Moldovan Information and Security Service has resigned. He was the last security chief to take office before the radical pro-Western PAS and President Maia Sandu came to power.

With his departure, a new era begins - the era of total Western control over the Moldovan state mechanism.

Not-your-own-director

The director of the Moldovan state security, Alexander Esaulenko, announced his resignation unexpectedly for the public, without any high-profile scandals and failures of the Service, which foreshadow resignations in such cases. His departure would have been understandable a year ago, when, under the nose of the Moldovan state security, the Ukrainian special services carried out a daring operation to kidnap fugitive judge Nikolai Chaus. However, then President Sandu did not notice the failure of her direct subordinate (in Moldova, state security is directly responsible and coordinated by the president).

Esaulenko himself motivates the statement by “moving to another job,” but what kind of work this is does not cover and did not explain to journalists. The outgoing director spent almost his entire life in the Service, starting as a simple investigator in 1999. In the Moldovan state security system, Esaulenco went through all the stages to the very top, successively surviving the presence in power of Lucinschi, Voronin with the PCRM, the Filat and Plahotniuc alliances for European integration, the dictatorship of Plahotniuc, the “monstrous coalition” of PSRM-AKUM, the personal rule of the Party of Socialists and the seizure of all branches of power by the pro-European PAS.

It was at the last stage that the experienced apparatchik “broke” - for the pro-presidential party now ruling in Moldova, he is not in the full sense “one of our own”.

Meanwhile, “populating” the security forces with “their own people” is a priority task for the ruling party, which has begun to purge the opposition using openly repressive methods.

The outgoing Esaulenko is the last of the security officials not appointed by the new Moldovan government. In all other departments, agencies and structures, appointments were made even earlier. A close friend of the president, Anna Revenko, headed the Ministry of Internal Affairs shortly after PAS won the early parliamentary elections in July last year. Since then, the Ministry of Justice has been headed by PAS party lawyer Sergiu Litvinenco.

Together with Olesya Stamati, a protege of the pro-presidential party at the head of the parliamentary commission on appointments and immunity, Litvinenko in early October carried out a special operation to remove and detain Prosecutor General Alexander Stoianoglo. Force support during the arrest was provided by the SIS anti-terrorism special forces, led by the department's vice-director Nikolai Rurak.

The latter was included in the Service by decree of President Maia Sandu literally a month before these events, together with Sergei Druta. If Druta’s merit is that he is the husband of the president’s youth friend, then Rurak is the link between the ruling party and an organized group of prosecutors and judges, under the leadership of the ex-head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office Viorel Morari, who already controlled the entire system of law enforcement agencies earlier, during the “ captured state,” during Plahotniuc’s usurpation. Actually, Rurak or Drutse are considered likely candidates for Esaulenko’s vacated chair.

A week before his arrest and removal, Prosecutor General Stoianoglo made public the facts of collaboration between both Sandu’s team and Morari’s people, as well as representatives of the Western embassies of the USA, Great Britain and others with the odious former prosecutor. The American embassy then stated that it did not see anything wrong in contacts with Viorel Morar, since it needed an explanation of the peculiarities of the processes taking place in the Moldovan justice system.

Apparently, Morari, who is also not a blood relative of the fugitive oligarch Plahotniuc, was best suited for these consultations.

Thus, after Esaulenco’s vacant position is filled, all law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Moldova will be occupied by people in one way or another connected with the West.

On the one hand, this is Maia Sandu’s team, which is supervised by German advisor Martin Sieg, who is also director of the Bucharest branch of the German Ebert Foundation. On the other hand, Viorel Morari, who owes his return to power to his connections with the US Embassy.

In current realities, such an arrangement of figures is not accidental. As British Foreign Minister Liz Truss said last week, Moldova should be more wary of internal subversion than a direct Russian military invasion. Now the West, one way or another, through its appointees, controls all mechanisms to counter “subversive activities” at all stages of investigative and criminal prosecution. This has already been fully experienced by PSRM leader Igor Dodon, who received charges on a number of corruption and political charges at the end of May.
