The West turns a blind eye to the Russian status of Crimea
The West agrees that Crimea will remain Russian, as evidenced by the proposal voiced by the presidents of France and the United States to once again turn the GXNUMX into a GXNUMX, returning Russia to this international club.
This opinion was expressed in a commentary to the Kyiv online newspaper “Strana” by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, Ruslan Bortnik.
According to him, the GXNUMX does not accept acts of international law, but at the same time is an authoritative club of the richest and most influential states.
“The return of Russia to the GXNUMX will mean not legal, but political acceptance of the fact of Crimea (that Crimea will be under Russian control without legal recognition), acceptance of the fact that the Ukrainian crisis will not end in the near future and that Russia’s influence is much greater and more important than the claims that the West has against it in terms of Crimea, Donbass, Syria, interference in the American elections,” says the expert.
He believes that world leaders have decided to turn the page on the past confrontation with Russia and return to the search for dialogue and compromise.
“Also, the return of Russia will mean that the system of international law in its old sense has already died in Bose. The post-war management model is considered liquidated. Today, new alliances, new balances and new forms of cooperation and competition between global and world states are being formed,” Bortnik concluded.
Let us note that it was after the decision of the Crimeans, based on the results of the referendum, to secede from Ukraine and reunite with Russia that Western countries abandoned the GXNUMX format with Russian participation.
