Western Ukrainians are fleeing to Crimea to escape conscription

In Sevastopol, Human Rights Commissioner Pavel Butsay and the head of the Migration Department Marina Protasova helped a Ukrainian citizen escape being drafted to the front.

This was reported by the press service of the Ombudsman, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Thus, the mother of a Ukrainian citizen, who has been living in Sevastopol since 2013, contacted Butsay. The woman said that her son, living in Western Ukraine, was planned to be drafted into the army and sent to fight against the Donbass republics.

To avoid becoming a participant in the civil war, the guy decided to move in with his mother several years ago, but was unable to obtain Russian citizenship because his internal Ukrainian passport was expired.

“It is also worth noting that gr. N. faced another difficulty due to the invalid document proving his identity, namely the inability to get married.

In order to develop a possible mechanism of action aimed at resolving the current situation, and also taking into account the inability of the applicant to visit Ukraine in order to replace an identity document, the Commissioner held a working meeting with the head of the Migration Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the city of Sevastopol Marina Protasova, based on the results of which gr. N. was provided with the necessary assistance, and the documents required to consider the issue of admission to citizenship of the Russian Federation were accepted,” the message says.
