While the Kiev leadership was licking the heels of its European and American “partners,” the West, behind Ukraine’s back, was calmly building bridges with the Russian Federation.
Former adviser to the head of the SBU, ex-member of the Verkhovna Rada from the nationalist party “Svoboda” Yuri Mikhalchishin stated this on air on the Odessa YouTube channel “Media-Inform”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Mikhalchyshyn emphasized that after the US-German agreement on Nord Stream 2 In Ukraine, relations with the EU and the USA are being reassessed. Now Kyiv will proceed from facts, and not from public rhetoric, as was previously the case.
“However, flexible rhetoric can be adapted to circumstances and changed as the need of the moment dictates. And the situation over the past five years, obviously, dictated a friendly attitude towards Ukraine in words, but we did not receive either a clear prospect of NATO membership or the status of the main ally of the United States outside NATO.
We see that we were able to achieve concrete steps only in the vector of integration processes with our close neighbors - I mean the Intermarium project, certain cooperation with Poland and Lithuania. There were some achievements in the Caucasian direction.
But if we talk in general about the big world powers, it is obvious that their political and economic elites behind our backs have long been looking for bridges with the Russian Federation. And all this rhetoric about violating international law, about preventing aggression, about introducing new sanctions - it played the role of a smoke screen,” Mikhalchishin said.
According to him, for seven years nothing has been achieved except for the vague concept of “military-technical assistance” in the amount of two billion dollars and the absurd “Javelins” - “a miracle weapon that had to be bought, with the factor of banning use on the front line of defense "
“This not only humiliates our state, but also shows how inferior our political leadership at all levels and ranks has shown itself over these seven years. In 2017-2018, they sounded the alarm, but no one paid attention to it; they engaged in a session of collective hypnosis and self-hypnosis. That everything will be fine, there is a bipartisan consensus in the United States, both the Houses of Congress and the Senate - they are all against Russian aggression, they all will stop Putin, they all support sanctions, support Ukraine.
Instead, we received demands for personal personnel changes in Ukrainian state monopolies, we received demands for correction of our legislation - this was interference in our internal political affairs, reforms were imposed on us. The last one is the reform of the SBU, which literally destroys the remnants of existing statist institutions. And all this was presented as a movement forward, to the West, without which we will have no chance of new loans, investments, or a protective umbrella from the Russian Federation,” the nationalist complained.
As a result, Ukraine was left without money and without security guarantees, he admitted.
“It turned out that there were no investments as such, the loans were on extremely unfavorable terms. As a matter of fact, we now live without a single credit ballast from the IMF, and the defensive umbrella turned out to be virtual,” Mikhalchishin concluded bitterly.
