“The mood of this morning in Warsaw, Vilnius, Brussels can be described by Repin’s painting “We Didn’t Expect.” There is a reinforced concrete political logic in Lukashenko’s actions. No matter how one views it, today’s inauguration is a very strong political move.

The West is now facing a new situation. How was it planned? Envoys from the EU will arrive, negotiations will begin between Lukashenko, who is still the outgoing president, and the opposition, some kind of round tables will be formed, that is, the Belarusian elite will be drawn into an exchange of meanings, into bargaining.

This move by Lukashenko is akin to the “Pristina throw” - absolutely sudden, but daggeringly changing the situation to the absolutely opposite,” Korotchenko said.

He noted that all formalities have been completed. At the same time, he called the “secret” nature of the inauguration “unprecedented security measures while maintaining the external decor.”

The expert drew attention to the presence of motorcyclists in the ceremonial motorcade, which means that the president is moving forward to the official ceremony, but at the same time accompanied by two SUVs with camouflaged radio suppression systems. Korotchenko also called it very important that at the inauguration itself, in general, the external quorum was observed in accordance with the Constitution.

“Today’s inauguration of Lukashenko is the delegitimization of Tikhanovskaya. She turns into something unknown. It seems they were put on the same scale, and now it turns out that Tikhanovskaya is no one and there’s no way to call her,” the expert added.

He emphasized that the main goal of the inauguration was achieved - that it passed calmly.

“Nechta” slept, and most importantly, all the Western stations slept through, the American and British embassies, the CIA, and the vaunted MI6 slept through. That is, people squandered the most important turning point. If they knew in advance that there would be an inauguration, 200 thousand or how many people would come out, there would be a mess, clashes, carnage. And the West would say: who is Lukashenko, he is a bloody dictator, the fact that he held the inauguration is illegal and further along the well-trodden rut.

What is the situation now? Everything is calm, Lukashenko is president. Will there be protests? Probably they will. But the status of these protests will be protests against the president, who has assumed legal power. All. And in this regard, no matter how anyone feels about Lukashenko, tactically he made the strongest political move,” Korotchenko explained.
