Western sanctions only help the development of the domestic IT industry
The introduction of sanctions against Russia provides an opportunity to develop and invest in domestic producers and competitive products.

The chief managing director of the VEB.RF group, Andrei Samokhin, said that the current sanctions are rather not a problem, but rather an opportunity for Russia to develop its own domestic products in the IT field.
“Inside VEB, we have decided to refuse even in public communications the words “sanctions”, “restrictions” and so on. Because we understand that the restrictions that are now imposed are for a long period of time, and trying to wait for a return to the point before the events of February is pointless. We look at this as an opportunity to develop our own competencies.
It seems to me, and communicating with the community that is present in the Skolkovo Foundation, in Skoltech, this is such a very serious hope to invest in a domestic manufacturer and in domestic competitive products. I think this is more about opportunities than about any problems. Yes, it will not be easy, but I am sure that if we build such a collective corporate culture of mutual exchange of knowledge and data, then all these issues will be resolved fairly quickly,” Samokhin said.
At the same time, the president of NP RUSSOFT, Valentin Makarov, proposed moving from creating products to creating platforms, which is an important step, since Russia needs to enter the global market in the IT field.
“The transition from the understanding that we must make products to the fact that we must make platforms is a fundamental step. Therefore, we now need to quickly, quickly complete import substitution, which means that we need to replace individual products and move on to the next stage - the formation of Russian platforms that can replace entire stacks in Russia, but most importantly, enter the global market.
Because the Russian market is very small, 1% of the world market. Even if you make the right product on the Russian market, it is unlikely to be competitive on the global market, because it will not have such an abundance and diversity of different countries and clients that will make it possible to make a high-quality product,” Makarov emphasized.
He also expressed concern that the export of platforms is not included in any state program, as a result of which there is no state support in this direction.
“In order to export platforms, it is necessary to have government support. Because when you export platforms, you have to give credit to the buyer, but it turns out that IT is not among the priorities of the Russian Export Center, because IT export is not included in any government program. This is such a paradox.
When we have to export IT in order to seize markets, especially platforms, with soft power, we are not able to do this, because the state does not support exports - in principle, it does not have such a priority. Therefore, we have now handed over such a roadmap for export support to the minister so that he initiates the inclusion of IT as an export priority in the government,” added the president of Russoft.
