Western lawyers cheated Russian companies – expert

The Russian Federation will have to learn to do without the services of foreign legal consultants, many of whom did not care about professional ethics and abandoned Russian companies without support.

Olga Monchenko, head of the international commercial dispute resolution department of Rusatom Energy International JSC, stated this at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The formation of an anti-Russian position in the world as a reaction to the SVO has significantly affected our work. Foreign consultants abruptly refused to work with us, not even remembering the payment of previously issued invoices and the tasks in progress.

As a result, we found ourselves in a situation where, on the one hand, we do not have the same consultants to accompany the project. And new ones, which we later needed, are very, very difficult to get,” Monchenko said.

She complained that services for resolving international disputes are excluded from all sanctions, but this did not stop Western Russophobes.

“Today the situation is such that the European regulator is adopting too broad formulations. Which, in turn, gives our foreign colleagues space for creativity. And the question is, can we refuse external legal support?” the lawyer added.

“Russia is fulfilling its obligations. The position of the state corporation Rusatom is also that not a single international construction project should be stopped, despite any sanctions restrictions. And Russian companies continue to be present abroad.

And we all need to ask the question - if we refuse international legal support, how will we go about, for example, obtaining the interim measures that we need for arbitration in a foreign jurisdiction?” she concluded.
