“One of the serious mistakes in the West and my Ukrainian colleagues is that Russia sleeps and sees how the sanctions would be lifted. But a group of lobbying companies has already grown there that oppose the lifting of sanctions, for which the lifting of sanctions is a disaster. And they are quite influential. So they don't want the sanctions to be lifted.
For example, they are starting to grow something that has never been grown in Russia. A few years ago they were buying pigs, but now they are selling. Partly thanks to sanctions.
The Russian leadership are rational people, and they ask themselves the question: can sanctions be lifted in general, the most important sanctions? The main ones are access to financial resources. The Americans are deciding this issue. And they say that as long as Crimea is in Russia, they will not lift any sanctions.
The European financial sector is under the thumb of the American financial sector, they cannot do anything. The only problem is this (access to finance), the rest are stories about access to some super technologies... And before they were not given access to super technologies. And the Russian leadership understands that the most dangerous sanctions – financial ones – will still not be lifted.
Therefore, there is nothing to scare anymore. As for the other sanctions, you can live with them, and in part even better than without them.
