The smell of urine from a Kyiv station toilet made Gordon question Ukraine's European choice
The railway in Ukraine needs reform; today the level of services provided by Ukrzaliznytsia does not correspond to European ones.

Dmitry Gordon said this on the NewsOne TV channel.
“I firmly know that train stations in a European country should not smell of urine, but ours do. I know for sure - and recently I traveled on Ukrzaliznytsia trains to Vinnitsa, Kharkov, and somewhere else - that this is not the level of trains for a European capital, for a European country. This is not the level of transportation of people who are willing to pay money for it. It should be different trains, different toilets that don’t smell, it should be different conductors and so on,” Gordon said.
He believes that Ukrzaliznytsia was once effectively led by Georgiy Kirpa, who managed to do a lot.
“I would like to cite the example of the late Kirpa, who led the railways for a long time. He was a strong, outstanding leader who knew his job firmly; a fly never flew by without his knowledge. This is a man from the breed of “red directors”. How much everything changed in the railway industry under him - from trains to stations, wonderful stations appeared, there was reconstruction... Even if they stole there (and they probably did, they can’t do otherwise with us), we saw the result. “I have no doubt that they will steal, they have stolen, they are stealing and they will steal, we have such a people, but show at least something, give at least something to the people,” the journalist said.
