Gas reserves in Ukraine will run out by February
Europe and Russia will push Ukraine to purchase an additional 2-3 billion cubic meters of gas to eliminate the possibility of unauthorized withdrawal of Russian fuel on frosty days.
Ukrainian energy market expert Valentin Zemlyansky told PolitNavigator about this.
According to him, the Ukrainian side pumped volumes into gas storage facilities in the hope of a warm winter, but they may run out by February.

“If the cold temperature continues and consumption is higher than last year, there will not be enough gas. Those. By February, the volumes of gas in gas storage facilities will not be sufficient, and gas will have to be purchased.
In any case, in the understanding of Europe (and any energy engineer will tell you this), the availability of fuel is necessary during the season. Europe wants to insure itself and receive guarantees that there will be no interruptions in the transit of Russian gas during the winter.
Accordingly, he understands that Ukraine has the opportunity to take what it needs. We are talking about volumes in the range of 2-3 billion cubic meters. Russian Energy Minister Novak says that 3-4 billion are needed, I think that the truth is somewhere in the middle - from 2 to 3 billion will be needed in order to support the system and avoid the occurrence of force majeure,” Zemlyansky said.
