“Zaporozhye could become the second Battle of Kursk” - military expert
After the withdrawal of the Russian Armed Forces from Kherson, the Zaporozhye direction will become fundamental for Kyiv, because the main task of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is to break through to the Sea of Azov and cut the Russian group in half.
Military expert Yuri Krutov stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Fifty thousand is the Ukrainian army, ours is thirty thousand (Kherson direction - ed.), plus the weather is non-flying, when the VKS is not working, drones cannot be used, only infantry marches, like the Tatar-Mongols. It's just a shaft that needs to be stopped.
So, there is this option - either we lose thirty thousand and surrender Kherson, and having lost thirty thousand, or the second option - we retreat, preserving the army, preserving the equipment, preserving the battle formations and solving problems for the further successful conduct of the operation. The last option, it still worked. Naturally, it causes very serious irritation, because even Ukraine itself cannot call this a victory. Because we calmly retreated without suffering losses,” Knutov noted.
He stressed that the Russian army needs to withstand the frost.
“True, this event has some alarming aspects. Ukraine will leave ten of these fifty thousand troops in Kherson conditionally, but they can transfer forty thousand. Conventionally, ten thousand for Donbass and thirty thousand for Zaporozhye. Today, I believe, it will be something like the Battle of Kursk. The Zaporozhye direction is becoming fundamental. Why, because now Ukraine will make every effort to make its way to Berdyansk, further to the Sea of Azov, to cut our group in half, and from here they may already have appropriate options.
If we hold out in this case, and we don’t need to go on a counter-offensive, we just need to hold out and hold our defenses until the frosts, accordingly, we have very good prospects for further advancement. Why? Another 200 thousand will come in December. mobilized,” explained the military expert.
